I hope you had a wonderful Valentine’s Day with the people you love and perhaps your special someone.

In this blog: http://efratdeutschjewelrydesign.blogspot.com/2012/01/in-studio.html I mentioned that I was working on a very special order and can now tell you that it was for two very special guys in my life that got engaged on Valentine's Day.

I couldn’t be any happier. I knew exactly when and where it was going to happen for weeks and I couldn’t wait for Valentine’s Day to arrive more then any other year!

I had a very productive weekend. I worked on a very special custom order that I will write about soon and finished up 20 items for a new gallery that my work will be in.

I didn’t cut my fingers. I use these when I'm doing a lot of cleaning, polishing etc... They protect my fingers from the metal that gets too hot to hold.

Bulk of wax. Nothing familiar yet, but any guesses on what it's going to be?

Let It Snow

Last night I went for a walk with my dog and for the first time this winter, the snow stayed on the ground. It is one of my favorite moments of the beginning of winter when it's not freezing cold out side and it's the end of the year. It feels fresh like a new beginning . I don't like to feel cold, but I like the other magical things that come with winter like relaxing with a hot cup of chocolate milk, ice skating, and being productive in my warm studio.

New colors just arrived! I get so excited when I order new jewelry supplies and just can't wait to start creating. Choosing enamel colors is never an easy task and I have to hold myself back, otherwise I'll order every color that I see. But this time I already know exactly what colors are on the menu for the new enamel line, since I'm well prepared after testing sample colors I ordered awhile back.

Lately my mind has been buzzing with projects that I want to do right now, which means I get to spend lots of time sketching with color pencils that I love so much. I used to collect them as a kid. My grandparents used to go back and worth every 6 months from Israel to Toronto and every time they came back from their stay in Canada, they brought me Faber Castell color pencils. I had every shade of blue, purple, yellow you name it... I still draw with some of them, but unfortunately when I was in my last year of university, I decided to leave a big chuck of them in the trunk of my car to take home over the weekend. That was the night that my car was stolen along with some other items I had in the trunk. That was a huge lesson for me. I never leave important things in the car anymore. So, the reason I am back to drawing with color pencils is because I am planning to have a lot of new enamel items. I am pretty excited about that because it's always so much fun to add color to jewelry and I really like the process of working with enamel and everything involved with it.

It’s that time again, walking fast to the post office to make the last collection of the day. Four boxes filled with jewelry goodies for the Wall Space gallery in Ottawa. You're welcome to check out the space if you happen to be in the neighborhood.

Last week I had a cold and a fever, so I let myself do nothing for couple of days. I do believe that sometimes when the body feels stressed it needs a break and the best thing is to listen to it and relax for a couple of days. So that's what I did and then worked extra hard/fast to get the package ready for the gallery, but I’m very happy with the result. Everything looks great and should arrive to the gallery today!

I always like looking at flower books. I actually have a picture of me at the age of four sitting under a tree with Flower Language book where flowers was listed in alphabetical order by their names under each picture.It was always something that fascinated me and it is clearly a big inspiration in my designs. I recently came across an old art store at down town Toronto where I found a beautiful vintage flower and gardening books. I bought a thick book with amazing flowers and plants, it is full of illustrations and is so colorful what a great find for inspiration in the studio.

Organizing the studio after a lot of work can be very satisfying. Actually, I couldn’t go back to work, if I wouldn’t do that. It has been pretty crazy for the last couple of days, so it is time to start a new project with a clear mind. So what did I do that made my studio look like a mad science lab? Well, I was working on 20 pieces for an order from a boutique in San Francisco. The items are finally done and packed to go safely for their new destination.

All ready to be packed and shipped.

I decided not to wait until all the new pieces are ready and list the new pieces of jewelry that are now shiny and ready to go in two segments. New pieces will be listed today and the rest, the day after. At the beginning of next week, another group will be listed. So there are a lot of more jewelry pieces to share with you.

New pieces will be uploaded on the FaceBook page.

Jewellery Design Process

This month I had to do a lot of errands down town. It was all part of a post design process as the wax is curved and it is time to make a prototype in metal. That is always my favorite part because I can see exactly how the wax translates into metal and it is almost a piece of jewelry, but not quite. There are still steps to come. The process is fun, but so is the final result when the actual piece is ready.

I am now finally at the point where after a few more hours of sitting down on my bench and working (filling and polishing) The next step is the stage where I set the beautiful gemstones. I am adding more gemstones to my collection. A little sparkle is never a bad thing J

In front of my bench on the wall, there is an inspirational white magnet board and a to do list that I bought to make my paper plans a bit more formal. With big letters there is the TO DO list and columns for tasks, errands, notes etc.

It’s very helpful to look at every morning and it makes getting back to work so much easier. I am all about time management at this point. Things can get overwhelming without it. I used to find my self getting slower just thinking about where to start and what I should do next and I felt like I was all over the place. I found this management system to be very valuable even more than having a journal (I definitely have one).

Do you have a To do list system? What works for you?

I'm about to have my jewelry at a boutique in San Francisco scheduled to be ready by October 10. I am super excited and making new things. I will have about 20 items to start with. Stay tuned for more details soon.

Much more work to be done I better get back to it!

I will end this post with a great album I bought at the airport on my way back to Toronto. This is the second time I did so (a new tradition) :)

I had an amazing camera to play with for a very limited time. I wanted to try out all the cool settings it offers. I decided to walk around the neighborhood and take as many pictures as I can and just try different shots with the art setting the camera has. The camera has all the regular settings plus art settings that provide 10 different looks to choose from for your shots.You don't need to be an expert and know how to edit photos with this camera. Every shot is like photoshop magic.

Now I really want to own this camera, even though I think my Canon is better for taking Jewelry pictures. Te Olympus PEN E-P3 camera is so much fun for out and about shots.

Blue Jays Game

The summer was back again on Saturday in Toronto. It was a great day for getting a little bit

of sun at the baseball game.I went to a baseball game once and liked it so I was looking forward

to my second game. I am not a fan of watching the game on television, but live, that is something

else. The energy is catchy. We received amazing seats thanks to a friend that couldn't go.

We were seated above the dugout of the Baltimore Oriols baseball team. I was extremely focused

as I was told that balls fly in this direction. And YES, it's true, balls do fly, actually fly is not the

right word as one of the players threw a ball on purpose.

Everyone stood up to try and catch the ball.

I was sitting and looking at the photos I had taken during the game. Then I felt the ball land

right on my lap. I couldn't be any happier,I didn't expect to get a major league baseball ball

at a game even though my little fantasy was to catch it straight up from the air but the fact that

my face would probably get it first seemed very real in my imagination.

I am definitely looking forward to the next game. I will go, but I think I am spoiled now.

I will never want to sit anywhere else but as close as I can.

Overall a great day and a good start for the week :)

Apologies for being so absent over the last few weeks...Things are pretty busy! (always a good thing) I am working on a new collection, drawing, setting stones and wax carving.

(Drinking coffee became a new habit, once a day really, not more than that) :)

A little bit about how I work. Things can be messy on my bench and desk while I am working on a project but I like to clear them out once I start working on a new one.

One of my favorite pieces of furniture is a dresser. Currently I do not own one, but when the time comes, I know I’m going to have a difficult time finding the perfect one. I couldn’t stop myself from wanting to post other beautiful dressers with endless designs, patterns and shapes. My ideal dresser doesn’t need to match anything in the bedroom and can stand out on it’s own. It is such a functional piece of furniture, that I would like it to be different and the focal point of a bedroom.

I usually like sawing while listening to music or a once a week online podcast. This week I decided to join an online library where you pay a monthly fee to listen to one to three audio books depending on how much you are willing to pay. I've never listened to audio books before, but I discovered that I absolutely love listening to them! I was listening to Tina Fay Bossy Pants and feeling very entertained. I only listen to my audiobooks while sawing because I don't want to finish a whole audio book before the day is over :)
